)

We kicked of the day with Koen de Weggeheleire’s “Play with pixels, Bitmap Manipulation with Flash”.
I was looking forward to this lecture beacause it’s what i like most
In this lecture Koen gave an indepth look at the bitmap manipulation within flash. Key subjects where Matrixes and Convolution filters. He gave us some examples of how to work with these filters and he showed us some of his own matrixes to edge detectect etc etc, so i was in Actionscript heaven
. If you want to know more about these subjects.. go see his blog!
You can view Koen’s slides here.

Lee Brimelow’s “AIR conditioning” was next up.
In his lecture Lee talked about AIR and working with the AIR runtime. Lee showed us some of his hilarious examples and gave us some tips on how to keep you code clean and optimized. It was very interesting and i am glad that i had an hour of laughs ( Lee’s jokes ) before i started a new emotionless lecture. ![]()

Lee has also posted a nice video recap of the FITC festival. View it here.

Andre Michelle’s “Making real music within flash” was next.
This lecture was something else. Andre and Joa Erbert have made sound framework for Flash. They concluded that the Sound classes that are in Flash these days are way out of date and really should be replaced by better ones. Together they made new classes and found a way to make sounds work way better in Flash. Because of this find, they started a campaign to get Adobe to start thinking about the Sound classes. It’s called: “Adobe make some noise!”.
Andre has also made some great new works with this new sound engine. One of his creations is a collection of digital drum machines. I have some of these at home ( in reallife) and they look exactly the same as the digital ones Andre and Joa created!!! Super cool!

Go visit Hobnox.com and register, if you want to see and work with this new creation!

Ralph Hauwert came up next with “Flash 2D & 3D Effects”.
Ralph was really happy with this lecture, because it was a way for him to finally not talk about Papervision3D (where he is a core developer) and go into his own interests and way of developing. Ralph talked about the mindset great thinkers have been in and how you can relate that to your own simple life. He showed us how he came up with new things and how he implemented the factor of the unknown. A very complicated story but it was very interesting.
Ralph also showed us his new framework called: Rephlex.
Rephlex is a trigger framework that can interact with different mediums like sound or video. With his framework you can for example trigger an event everytime a beat kicks into the music. Its very cool and looks very easy to use.
After Ralph’s presentation i didnt want to sit anymore so i started to talk to other people there and i had some good laughs. While laughing my *** off i went home ![]()
That was the end of day 02 and the festival
